The putting together of a trailer has little to do with the editing of a film.
Trailers are often done by companies who specialize in doing just that; they
get footage from the production company, go through it, and put together a
trailer from that. Even if the production company does it in-house, there's
no guarantee that they'll choose the same scenes that make it into the film.
