We are not born as lumps of mud that we have to mold into something acceptable. We are born as lovable, capable individuals who have not always been supported for being that way. As long as you think you "need a *reason* to gain your own approval" you will remain unsatisfied because you will never perceive that you are quite good enough. Don't look for the reasons to like yourself. Look for the reasons that you think you are a scumbag; check them out to see if 1) it really is true about you, and 2) it really makes you feel like a scumbag.
