Message-ID: <199@ucdavis.UUCP> Date: Tue, 21-May-85 02:15:11 EDT Article-I.D.: ucdavis.199 Posted: Tue May 21 02:15:11 1985 Date-Received: Fri, 24-May-85 07:57:16 EDT Distribution: net Organization: University of California, Davis Lines: 30 I went to the A's game on Saturday in Oakland, and being a Mets fan who does not follow the A's too closely, was surprised to find that Mike Davis of the A's bats 7th in the lineup. He is at or near the top of the league in average, homers, rbi's, slugging percentage, hits, runs, extra base hits, etc., but he still bats 7th in the order. Is this a way to get better pitches for him to hit, or are the A's saying that his stats are just a fluke and by the end of the season he will be a real 7th place hitter? Has a team ever had their leading hitter in so many categories bat below 5th in the order for a whole season? I expect there have been a few hitters in the 7 or 8th places with high averages, but nothing like Davis' season so far. One other question - they don't use a golf cart to drag the infield in Oakland. Is this common at other stadiums as well? Does having 3 men do it by hand provide more jobs?
