I haven't been following the Expos too closely either but apparently
Rogers had been pitching pretty lousy so far this season.  He got shunted 
down to the bullpen and didn't impress anyone there, either.  The Expos
had made a deal with the Astros for him but he vetoed it.  Thus, they
felt that they had to release him.  I think that three major factors in
the decision were:
			1) The Expos are rebuilding and want youth.
			2) They are in a pennant race (in May??) and
				can't afford to have extra baggage 
				on their pitching staff.
			3) He's got a big contract that they'd like to
				unload (hence the trade).

I personally feel that the Expos showed little compassion in dumping the
man who was their number one pitcher throughout most of their history.
This is a totally biased opinion that comes from someone who has been
a Steve Rogers fan from the start.  However, he should have accepted the
trade to Houston (a contender) when he saw that he no longer fit into
their plans.  All-in-all, nobody won.
