I think part of the reason for the switch is that Schmidt has already 
made 9 errors this year, and certainly made his share last year when
the Phillies infield were booting mass quantities of chances. Things
may not get better, though. The new 3rd baseman, Rick Schu, has made 
11 errors in 41 games in the minors before being called up, although
most were at shortstop.
