Message-ID: <203@ganehd.UUCP> Date: Wed, 22-May-85 19:08:01 EDT Article-I.D.: ganehd.203 Posted: Wed May 22 19:08:01 1985 Date-Received: Fri, 24-May-85 04:01:13 EDT Organization: NE Health District, Athens, Georgia Lines: 49 To Whom It May Concern, I am at that point in my life were a system manager must decide what type of operating system I should put on the newly purchased VAX 750. I am beckoning to all of you multifaceted users, system programmers, and system managers to consult myself about the pros and cons of the following OPSYSs on the the VAX 750: ULTRIX-32 (Dec's product which is 4.2BSD), 4.2BSD, 4.1BSD, and SYSTEM V version 2.0. The system configuration is as follows: VAX 750 with 4Mbytes, ECC MOS memory, TU80-AA tape drive (washing machine), RUA81-CA 456Mb Winchester hard disk, 32 asynchronous ports, LA120-DA printer/ console, and LXY12-EA plotter/printer. The printer/plotter just mentioned has no driver that is UNIX compatible (oops!); this means I am also looking for a driver (if not references where to look) that will make this printer work! One final consulting question; because we are a Statistics Department we have decided to get AT&T's statistical package 'S'. How does 'S' compare with 'SAS', 'SPSS', and any other statistical packages? Are there any other statistical packages that run under UNIX; I would like to know about them. Please reply ASAP over the network! Thank you. Mark Farrar ..!akgua!ganehd!mpf
