Why do you think the 3 second time is required before and after the +++'s? Just don't let the time buildup. Enter data fast enough to prevent a 3 second interval. Even if you do drop into command mode, it's simple to reconnect. And while in command mode, you CAN change your escape character. Also the number of them and the length of the pause required.
