They way you have described rape seems more similar to torture than to either murder or a type of assault. I think that torture is worse than both of the other crimes and should have at least as severe a punishment. Using your description of how I may experience rape I'm forced to agree with severe punishment. Something in the back of my mind wants to say that not all rape can be this bad but I'm hard pressed to think of an adequate excuse. Punishment should be based upon the intention and possible results of an attackers actions, not the actual (possibly lesser) effects in some cases. I hope your article has caused other men to think using this analogy as well.
