I think that it is all a matter of degree.  I think I'd rather be killed
than tortured, and I'd rather be raped than killed, but if the rape is 
also a torture, then I'd rather be killed.

But, most of all, I'd rather not have to make such a choice and I am sure
as hell going to try not to put myself in such a situation, because if I
did, I would rather kill than be either raped, tortured or murdered.
