I am interested in AI and do not have any experience in the field.  I only
know a little from reading magazine articles etc.  Is there a good intro-
ductory text or something that I can read to learn about the theory(s)
of AI?  Can anyone in the field give me some advice?

Briefly, I am an experienced programmer/analyst(many years).  My back-
ground is applications(strong), communications(moderate) and systems
(GCOS and IBM-also moderate).
