The cars were somewhat shorter, but the space behind the seat could be used to haul things -- typical traveling salesmen's cars. More modern coupes tend to have back seats, and are sportier, but the back seats are as comfortable as the floor behind the seat of a 1948 Chevrolet Coupe!
