They are hardened, and provide a more suitable grip for a 10" wrench or other large tool. You might wind up cleaning and rebuilding the calipers, but that should not be a big deal. (I have to admit having no experience with Fiats, but they couldn't be that badly designed, could they?). Until next time, Fix It Again Tony. :-)
