Sure you can. The way that front-wheel-drive cars lose it in corners is when the driver is faced with too much drift and he lifts off too much too soon to tuck in the nose too hard. Then the car will swap ends and go off the road backwards. This lossage is easy to avoid, and so driving a front-wheel-drive car at 9/10ths on most roads is easier than driving a comparable rear wheel drive car. I, for one, would rather steer the front wheels with the steering wheel and the back wheels with the throttle.
