He had 19k miles at the time, but the dealer refused to cover the repair under the warranty. So he decided to live with it. The posting caught my attention since I have been having the same problem with my '84 Accord ever since 15k miles. The car now has 22,500 and I finally decided to take it to the dealer and have him press Honda to pay for it. Honda went for it!! So next week I get a new clutch, gratis. I post this to let other owners of 1984 Hondas with manual transmissions know about the problem. Apparently the clutch material used in these cars becomes hardened, and starts making groaning sounds during engagement. If you are experiencing this problem, don't wait. Honda doesn't consider the clutch part of the 'engine & drivetrain', and hence covers it under the shorter 12month/12k mile warranty. If you are past that limit, your only hope is Honda's good will.
