Don't abandon the subject of icky-looking foods so fast! I recently held a gathering to taste-test a variety of hummus recipes for a friend (Steve), dubbed HummusCon '85. The party was especially appealing because Steve has hated hummus from the first time I fed it to him; it looks icky. Steve still hates hummus ("his favourite gross Middle Eastern food"), but a good time was had by all. Now it has been proposed that we make this funfest an annual occasion. Each year we feature another taste-test of recipes for some gross-looking food (that actually tastes good to someone). We're set for '86, because Steve also hates my guacamole. What else can we use as themes for future meetings? It must be a good food (to me), and look gross (to Steve). Some controversy about ingredients and proportions would be nice. Nothing outrageously expensive for the first few years, please. Possible taste-test subjects and recipes are welcome. Mail to me and if I'm flooded with fascinating suggestions, I'll tell all on the net. Do not use the Joy of Cooking hummus recipe.
