A suggestion on flaming style was recently posted to this newsgroup:

I hasten to point out that these suggestions only apply if you are
still an undergraduate (or, perhaps, a still-retarded graduate student)
at a university that is not careful who it lets represent it in public.
If you are presently employed by a provider of network access, it is
assumed that you have successfully survived puberty and no longer need
to indulge in adolescent name calling, adolescent sarcasim(sic), or 
adolescent foul language.  As to slander: legal remedies are available
to anyone actually slandered on the net.  

I look forward each year to the summer vacations at the schools around
the country -- the intellectual level of the discussions on the net go
up substantially until September rolls around again.
