I think that the line is generally "FIRE and brimstone". re: wimpy Call of Cthulhu professors averting their eyes to avoid SANITY saves. You just have an inept DM. I've played CoC some, and yes, you can avoid looking at something, but only if you flee or turn away. You have to look at something to shoot at it. Averting your eyes at first only delays when you have to save versus your Sanity, not if. Still, I would argue that characters with experience with similar creatures should get bonuses for that saving throw. /Chris
