If you mean the thing was under a rock like :
		   -
                  `-
                 ---

Then try a wand of striking or a wand of teleport to get rid of the
rock (and amulet?). Also, a wand of polymorph to get change the rock
to a gem could be used (if you want to try it in light of the fact
that the amulet may be changed also).

If you mean you could get to it at all, I wouldn't know.
