	      New UNIDEN/Bearcat Scanners Announced

     Three new Bearcat scanners	were introduced	at the	sum-
     mer Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago:

	- BC140	($139)

	- BC175XL ($229), a keyboard programmable unit	with
	  full	display,  similar in appearance	to Regency's
	  'Z' models.

	- BC50XL ($189), a cost	reduced, hand-held  keyboard
	  programmable,	 featuring 10 channels and a 2 digit
	  display.  In a break with the	Bearcat	tradition of
	  selectable scan delay	on a per-channel basis,	this
	  model	appears	to have	a 3 second global scan delay
	  which	cannot be defeated.

     None of these models provides 800 MHz band	coverage.

     These new models lend credence to the  prediction	that
     UNIDEN  intends to	concentrate on 'back to	basics', low
     cost designs and de-emphasize  full  featured  scanners
     aimed at more sophisticated radio enthusiasts.
