Anyone else? Message-ID: <455@talcott.UUCP> Date: Sat, 15-Jun-85 09:14:52 EDT Article-I.D.: talcott.455 Posted: Sat Jun 15 09:14:52 1985 Date-Received: Tue, 18-Jun-85 04:02:18 EDT Distribution: net Organization: Sociology Dept., Harvard Univ. Lines: 24 Xref: linus net.micro:9553 net.micro.pc:4002 Last nite I left my PC-AT on for a 24 hour period. When I came in to work in the morning, the fan had stopped and machine was VERY hot (I couldn't touch the hard disk cabinet or the power supply). An attempt to read the disk resulted in "Bad FAT 1" then a good directory followed by a disk read error. When I shut the machine off and turned it right back on, the fan came to life. I disassembled it and let it cool for 2 hours and now it seems to be OK (I did a full backup immediately). Questions: What caused the fan to cut out? What possible damage was caused? How can I check the health of the machine beyond standard diagnostics? Anyone else out there that has seen this?
