It's like reading pro-acne advertisements from > the American Chocolate Vendors Association; can you understand that > there is a severe lack of credibility? > I disagree. This ongoing argument between the two camps has turned out to be fairly enlightening. While those involved may be arguing religeous issues there have been more than just a couple of good articles that have really had a little depth to them. If you aren't here to discuss or read on the comparisons of different architectures, then why are you here?? I would like to give each of them a (software) knife and let them go at each other. In fact, I would like to see more of the unix benchmarks run on different systems that use the different processors, esp the 320xx folks who seem to have been (wisely) silent through all of this. My reasoning is this: I am a poor slum who cannot afford any of these systems right now. I am constantly looking at the market, however, and interested in how things are going. I know that currently I can pick up an IBM PC/AT with XENIX (5.0 supposedly this summer) and disk, etc, swap the crystal around and get a 10 mhz system up and running for 3.5K. The cheapest 68000 system that I have seen in the same class is the ATT 7300 which I can pick up for around 5K - 5.5K in this area (Atlanta). Price makes a big difference and there is going to be a lot of software coming out of PC/AT's and XENIX simply because they will sell more machines than most other folks (that stupid BIG BLUE backing). I may not like it, but it is a fact. Support will be local, hardware will be cheaper, and probably software cheaper, too. What are other folks opinions.
