Anyone who doubts the value of this sub-culture has never seen fit to ask for help with an odd-ball need. Many thanks to all those folks who responded to my request for information, either directly, or via followup articles on the net. I have chosen to rename not only chdir, but dir, del and type (and their aliases). I have tried to circumvent these pre- cautions without resorting to the new command names and feel certain that to do so would require a sophisticated knowledge of MS-DOS and a degree of time and perseverance which will not be reasonable in the environment the system is to face.
