Yeah. Got the new U2. The Live cut of "a Sort of Homecoming" doesn't add
a lot to the recorded performance, perhaps because you can't see Bono
waving his arms and all the dry ice fog. THe bass is extremely wimpy. Not
such a bad cover of the Eno/Lanois "Wall of Smoke" ambience, though.

"The Three Sunrises" features some nice jump-cut buzzsaw guitar, and has
been remixed or remastered to take some of the sweetness of the original
Enossification out of it. It starts with the kind of "Voice in the Cloudbank"
that "MLK" has, but it turns into a somewhat more swaggery bit of Rockism.

"Bass Trap" features the patented Eno technique of taking the bass, EQing it
beyond all recognition, and turning it into a chattery little drumbox-type
noise "dididididididididididid". Over that are the little guitar seagulls
and walls of volume pedal stuff that you know so well. Strictly instrumental.

"Love Comes Tumbling" is a bit more interesting. Reminds one a bit of a more
straight reading of "Elvis Presley and AMerica" (lots of slide in the vocal,
almost a woozy, drugged delivery) over a slow tempo guitar strum vamp. No
fists in the air here. Pretty nice, really.

Ellis is right. Description that eschews elitist language is hard. I fail.
I also hope I haven't offended Sean Byrne (*where are those recordings, 
Sean?*). Go out and buy the new Big Black EP. If you're as serious about
U2 as D. Alan is about Kate Bush, don't buy Big Black-you'll hate it.
