This past Sunday, I witnessed _Boiled_In_Lead_,(BIL), a band which plays
ecclectic Celtic music.  Usually they play loudly and electrically, but this
particular gig was accoustic.  The venue was The Coffehouse Extempre', a
holdover from folk music's days of glory.  This band usually plays in
progressive clubs around the Twin Cities.

BIL played with great intensity.  They are one of those bands which defies
categoriztion.  Their promotional T-shirt defines them best.  It depicts a
breakdancer, a Rastafarian, a Flashdance-type woman, and a Skatepunk, all
interwoven with typically sqiggly Celtic motifs.  It's quite amazing when a
tinwhistle solo in _Fisherman's_Hornpipe_ suddenly takes on aspects of reggae or
jazz sax.

The band is really quite authentic, though.    All five members play several
insturments each.  Nearly everything they do is traditional.  They also
performed _Once_In_a_lifetime_ by the Talking Heads and _Sixteen_Tons_ by Merle
Travis.

They have a recent album, which is really excelent.  Since it's on their own
label and probably doesn't have much national distribution, I think it's
appropritate to include their address.  Incidentally, I have no connection to

I got this information off of a tape of various live performances by BIL, which
