Kate (or Binky > as she is also known ) is the most hostile and competitive > person I have ever met. [HUGH R. JANSIC] While I found Hugh Jansic's story about how Kate Bush brought terror to his family very disturbing, I have a couple of comments: First of all, I can't really call it "setting me straight" because I had no preconceived notions of what kind of person she was, nor did I really care (though I would if she were sleeping with my brother) because I don't think it will affect my enjoyment of her music. I've never known a world famous professional artist of any kind, but for some reason I've always believed that many of them would have personalities far from what we would consider to be normal, and that many would be unable to have normal relationships with other people. It just seems to be something that goes with that degree of creative ability, so I can't say I'm too surprised to hear that Kate Bush can't or won't be civil with people who are close to her. I'm tempted to say, "I'm not going to buy any more of her records because I don't want to contribute to the horrible things she does to people," but I'm more tempted to say, "her personal life is not my concern. I'm only concerned with her music." I prefer to judge music by itself, rather than along with the artist's personality, so I'd rather not hear about personality flaws that may prejudice my opinion of that artist's music. She brought sorrow to the Jansic family though her personal association, but that's no reason to prevent her from bringing pleasure to mine through her music. So let's talk about music, not about the musicians' personalities! -- Jeff Richardson, DCIEM, Toronto (416) 635-2073 {linus,ihnp4,uw-beaver,floyd}!utcsri!dciem!jeff {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!dciem!jeff
