Sounds like something I've had running in background for awhile: most of us have heard the expression, "on the same wavelength", used to describe two people who got along very well. Where did this expression come from? Probably from radio, where your radio set has to be tuned to the same frequency as the set of the person you're trying to communicate with. If it's a little off, there'll be noise and distortion, if it's a lot off, forget it. But if you're on the same frequency, you come in "loud and clear". Now, how does this relate to us? After all, we don't have a superhet between the ear and the brain. I think it has to do with the way your brain works. For we usenet techie types, logic is a big part of how our brains work. Now, the human mind is much too complex to be described by a single number (frequency). Lets propose that there are many components, so we hook up a spectrum analyser, and display the spectrum. Now, we can say that "so-and-so's spectrum correlates with mine in such-and-such areas, and doesn't in these others. There seems to be something significantly different in the thought processes of the two genders. (yes, with plenty of exceptions) Is this not why we have so much trouble understanding each other? An artist could have the same amount of intelligence as a UNIX hacker, but the spectrum would be totally different.
