That's the only point that gives any amount of validity to the argument in favour of the new rule (offsetting minors, for those that haven't been reading this group lately). I'll have to admit that the referees may be more willing to send off one player from each team than to just penalise one team, but if that's the case, then that's not a problem with the (old) rules, it's a problem with the way they're enforced.
