If my memory serves correctly, both William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy are
the same height--5'10".  If you notice, the cast of the series are all
the same height or shorter than Shatner.  I'm not aware of using any other
tricks--just the usual one of never showing the star next to a taller guest
star so as to make the stars real height obvious.

By the way, 5'10" is NOT short, its AVERAGE (for men anyway).  Another
example of how TV, movies, etc distort reality.
