  Actually, they were individual brain cells that invaded an Earth
  Colony in the episode entitled "Operation - Annihiliate!".  Kirk's
  only brother was killed by them.  They evidently attached themselves
  to the spinal cord and caused excruciating pain.

  They were destroyed by light.  McCoy discovered this, and tested
  it on Spock, throwing the whole spectrum (?) at him, rendering Spock
  blind.  The blindness was only temporary, since Vulcans have an
  internal eyelid, "something we Vulcans tend to ignore, much as you
  ignore your appendix".

  Denebian Slime Devils were mentioned in "The Trouble with Tribbles",
  with which the Klingon commander was comparing to qualities of the
  officers of the Federation.  Definitely not the same creatures as
  in the previously described movie.

  The action in the "pizza bat" episode took place on "Deneva".
