Casting makes sure to always hire extras that will be as short or shorter than Shatner. Notice that this was not true of Nimoy who appears quite tall in comparison. William Shatner is also bald and wears a toupee, contact lenses and a specially padded uniform to give him that manly "bulked-up" look.
