Has any one thought of using 'refer' for managing mail messages?

If you've written something that takes a mail message as input 
and outputs a file in 'refer' format, I'd be very interested
in getting a hold of it.  I think it'd be great to have mail
stored in a bibliography system for indexing, retrieval, sorting
and runoff.
