R.D. Jenks of IBM, Yorktown Heights, will speak on ``On
the Design of the SCRATCHPAD II.''

ABSTRACT

The  syntax  and semantics of the ongoing design of the
SCRATCHPAD  II  language  will  be presented as well as
issues  and  decisions  which  led  up  to  its current
status.  Current ongoing work on the development of the
SCRATCHPAD   II   interpreter   and  compiler  will  be
presented  with special emphasis on the techniques used
for  interactive  type determination.  A description of
the  design issues and decisions leading to the current
language design.
