Lines: 25 From: Jim Mayer Does anyone know of any hard evidence concerning after-market rust "proofing"? Most people in the north east seem to get it, but I have never heard any evidence other than testimonials that it works! The people at Consumer Reports claim (April 1985 'Auto' issue): Protection, if any, depends on competence of installer. If car's drain holes are blocked, rustproofing can accelerate corrosion. Dealer "pack"; not recommended. Most cars are designed to resist corrosion and won't benefit from added rustproofing. Unfortunately, they don't give any facts either. Does anyone know of any studies on rust proofing effectiveness? What are the arguments for and against it? How much does it cost (if any) to maintain a car so that a rust-proofing warranty is not voided? I'll summarize if I get a lot of responses. -- Jim Mayer University of Rochester (arpa) mayer@Rochester.ARPA Department of Computer Science (uucp) rochester!mayer Ray P.
