But since nobody came up with the one I was thinking of -- and Steve Bourne hasn't posted anything about it either -- I thought I would give it my best shot. I can't tell it like Steve, but it remains a good story. It seems Daryl was preparing to leave a busy airport -- maybe even the very air show that David Smith saw the plane at. The tower says: "Report passing end of runway, then say altitude each two thousand feet till ten thousand." Daryl gets a bit hot under the collar at this suggestion, piles on full afterburners, and hauls the stick all the way back. He contacts the tower: "F-104 at 2,000...4,000...6,000...8,000...10,000...cleared end of runway!" -- Dave Fiedler {harpo, astrovax, whuxcc, clyde}!infopro!dave People Phone: (201) 989-0570 USMail: InfoPro Systems, 3108 Route 10, Denville, NJ 07834 Flight Instructor: "What would you do if I jumped out right now?"
