The one time I was in that situation, an exact amount was not available so I made them produce an estimate and then wrote clearly on the ticket "Amount not to exceed $XXX.00" That worked well. BTW, if you plan to do something like this, let them make the impression and put the ticket in your hand before discussing it (get your card back too). That way you hold the POWER OBJECT and they have to negotiate with you!!! D.Katz
