Times: To check your credit rating, write to TRW (Box 271, Parsippany, NJ 07054), CBI (708 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10017) or Trans Union Credit Information Company (95-25 Queens Boulevard, Rego Park, NY 11374). Include name, spouse's name, address, addresses for the past five years, social security number, year of birth, and a $10 money order. If there's inaccurate information included, the *Federal* Fair Credit Reporting Act requires that the *credit agency* [emphasis mine] contact the creditor, and make appropriate changes. If the creditor does not agree that the information is wrong, you're allowed to insert a statement of your own, which must be included with future credit reports. Bankruptcies can remain in your file for 14 years; most other unfavorable information must be removed after 7 years.
