R+D, Santa Monica Lines: 16 Summary: Out here in California the law is that pedestrians ALWAYS have absolute right of way, even when jaywalking. (This is a fine point of the law most tourists and immigrants don't realize until they have to read up on it to get their first California driver's license. Myself, I think a summary of California driving laws should be available at the borders and at airports. And maybe a similar summary for non-drivers explaining that California cops often arrest people for jaywalking (with the law above, it really interferes with traffic) but that there are many invisible crosswalks.) Invisible crosswalks? There's one at every corner or T-intersection. You're not jaywalking when you cross at one. By the way, I was once told that there's a NY law giving a driver making a right turn with the signal the right of way over a pedestrian crossing with the same signal. Is this true? --Lee Gold
