Chicago, Astronomy & Astrophysics Lines: 13 In Illinois pedestrians also have the right of way in a crosswalk unless they are crossing on a red light. The crosswalk is defined to exist at intersections even if no lines are painted. (I checked this in the driver's handbook when I moved here from California.) Nevertheless, not one driver in a hundred seems to believe in any form of pedestrians' rights. Many will actually speed up when approaching an occupied crosswalk to see the people scatter. _____________________________________________________ Matt University crawford@anl-mcs.arpa Crawford of Chicago ihnp4!oddjob!matt
