	You're mistaken.   This sort of abbreviating goes back
at least as far as amateur radio telegraph hackers, and probably
much further (most hieroglyphic languages eventually combined
pictorial meanings with "sounds like" interpretations).
	Just another example of MIT thinking they invented
everything....  No, put down that reactor, Meson -- aaauuuggggghhh!!!!
