I went over to another terminal and sent a HUP to that job, and complications came in left and right, for example, you should be aware of the following if you intend to try to live through this scene some day: : Most HACKs run set to another user; if this is so at your favorite dungeon then you're not going to be able to send the actual process the HUP signal anyway unless you are "root" : There's an option in the source we have here that defines whether or not the game will attempt a save when HUP comes to visit; for our sites it's been set to work like no-save-on-hackers-HUPs, and if this holds at your favorite dungeon then it's pointless anyway : our systems, and I suppose other systems, seem to kill off detached-for-too-long jobs with NR 9 --er oops I mean -9 gosh-- and if this happens then just letting the game go idle overnight won't get it to be killed gently enough to be saved either. So, gosh there's a lot of site-dependent stuff involved with a hackHUP (hhmmm, excuse me) hacker-hack-save, and so maybe none of this is of any use to you, but then I can summarize as follows: the HUP save looks pretty tricky. Don't get all excited next time you get the cockatrice-body-touches-you-and- you-wretch-out-to-the-max --More-- line shows up, `cuz it's tricky. To the spoiler who first posted about it, congrats, you've got a neat setup out there ... travis@cmu-cs-gandalf.arpa (maybe we can be reached thru uwisc?) Yes, the site name is real. Did I say I liked to play Wizards?
