Message-ID: <977@mtgzz.UUCP> Date: Fri, 26-Jul-85 18:03:25 EDT Article-I.D.: mtgzz.977 Posted: Fri Jul 26 18:03:25 1985 Date-Received: Mon, 29-Jul-85 06:09:20 EDT Organization: AT&T Information Systems Labs, Holmdel NJ Lines: 22 I am buying a house and one side of the property is open to the neighbor's yard and faces towards a busy street about a 1/4 mile away. The noise from the street is audible but not loud. I'd like to plant a hedge or row of trees there that would give the backyard some more privacy and cut out the rest of the noise. I live in Central New Jersey. Does any one have some suggestions for hardy, fast-growing hedges or trees to plant? I don't mind having to prune them, but I don't want to make it a full-time profession. On the same subject of trees and shrubs, if you fertilize your trees well(like you fertilize your tomotoes) will your trees grow at a appreciably faster rate? Most people don't seem to do any- thing for their trees and shrubs(except azaleas and rhododendrons) besides prune them. Obviously planting a tree is an investment in the future, but it would be nice if the investment paid off a little quicker in shade and privacy. From what I've read planting larger nursery stock is not the answer. As the tree gets bigger it is less able to withstand shock to the roots so planting smaller trees and shrubs is a better bet. Thanks for any info! Sharon Badian ihnp4!mtgzz!seb
