Another grass story:

Friends of a friend of mine (who live in Bethesda, one of the tonier areas
around DC) decided they didn't like grass.  So they let their lot go to 
forest.  (This does not take long around here.)  Their house is cool, there's
no grass (except where the birdseed sprouted); the neighbors are going to need
a chainsaw to clear it out.

The newer, "planned cities" (how I detest that phrase!) almost invariably have
all sorts of covenants restricting what you can do with you lawn.  Suburbia
conquers all....
