Lines: 26 I've heard rumours that Consultants/Contractors in the Silicon Valley area are far better compensated than their colleagues here on the east coast (Boston). The claims I've heard range from double the east coast rates (2 x ~$50/hr) to more than $1000/day (which is $125/hour (2 x $62.50)). The other thing I've heard (which I'm thinking is probably a "California Fairy Tale"), is that you consultants on the West Coast only work when the Surf's down (i.e. not up). I've got a friend who's a full time consultant/contractor and is seriously considering relocating (at least on a temporary basis to the west coast). Hoiw's the market for nomadic software people in California these days? My friend is a communications type, specifically interested in IBM/SNA communications. By the way, my definition of the difference between a contractor and a consultant is that a contractor has a pimp (terminology intended).
