john asks "why should the defects of UUCP be foisted on the rest of the
world", to which jordan voices approval.

i don't recall any suggestion that the internet abandon their scheme.
i have no experience with the arpanet (i must be the only person in the
world), but from here it seems to work just fine (except every few
years they say "ok everybody, CHANGE PROTOCOLS!" or "ok everybody,
CHANGE HOSTNAMES!" but i'm sure there is good reason for this strange
practice).

i have, on the other hand, heard many suggestions that the uucp world
adopt the internet style, in host names, in administrative practice,
and in addressing.  keep in mind that the "... defects ... foisted ..."
argument is a blade that cuts both ways.
