Anyone who uses a mac to connect with a 4.2BSD machine should DEFINITELY check it out. I have a few suggestions for future versions. File transfer capability - The lack of it is about the only thing that is keeping me from not using MacTerminal for most of my work. MacGet and MacPut work really well, but only with MacTerm. It would be nice to have the download session be only one of the 7 pseudoterminals, but then again, I'm dreaming. Configuration files - to set the default line parameters. Mouse communication support - Send a message whenever the mouse is clicked in an area and provide dragging information. This stuff could be read by a programmable text editor such as EMACS. We have a set-up such as this at Stanford for EMACS sessions through workstations running the V distributed OS. It is amazing how much more productivity can be gotten from even simple mouse supprt. (and how fancy some people can get given the lowest level interfaces) Along the same lines, pull-down menu support. A command for creating and destroying menus and a command (from the mac) for indicating a menu selection, again, most useful from EMACS) It would be nice if you removed the copyright notice at the start of the program, and, instead, placed it in the 'about...' dialog. Mac XL support. - UW always looks for SERD 1. This only applies to regular Macs. MacXL's use SERD 2. I worked around this by removing SERD 1 and renumbering SERD 2 to 1. This has obvious drawbacks. Once or twice, I have had trouble quitting. (the program hangs.) I can't remember the exact circumstances. BTW - UW DOES work on a 128K Mac. (TNX - I still have one for testing purposes, and my 512 is back on the east coast.) All in all, a very good job. I was amazed that the program was reasonably efficient at 1200 baud, aneven nicer at 9600. Gus Fernandez Standard Disclaimer.....
