I.E., Chevy competing against Buick competing against Pontiac competing against Oldsmobile. If it were GM vs Ford vs Chrysler, GM would (everything else being equal) have a one third chance. But put {Chevy && Buick && Olds && Pontiac} against {Ford && Mercury} and {Dodge && Plymouth}. The odds now become 4 out of 8 == 50%. Coke vs. Pepsi was 50% (ignoring the others). Two Cokes vs. Pepsi is 67%. Perhaps this is what Coke had in mind all along.
