Please respond by mail. > -- > Since I'm new to the system and don't know how to properly use mail, I'll have to respond here. The movie _Star Wars_ was not properly titled. As you know the second movie was titled _Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back_ and the third movie was titled _Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi_. The first movie should have been titled _Star Wars: A New Hope_. _Star Wars_ is the actually the title of the whole saga, which is made up of nine episodes, as in a Matinee serial, which gave Lucas most of his inspiration. These nine episodes are in turn broken into 3 three episode segments. Each segment covering a short time span of great changes. The movies that have been released so far are Episodes 4, 5, and 6 or the middle segment of the saga. Lucas is supposed to have an outline of the entire saga. How detailed this outline is I never heard, but I know that it's not set in stone. Apparantly the outline keeps evolving as he gets new ideas. (I'm not sure Darth Vader, Luke, and Leia were all related in the outline when Lucas first produced _Star Wars_. Supposedly Han and Luke were related in one version and went off in the Millenium Falcon, their dad's spaceship, to rescue their dad , similar to the Hardy Boys). Apparantly, when Lucas tried to sell his concept, no one was interested, especially in a project of that size , nine films. 20th Century Fox decided to gamble, but only on one film and the 4th Episode (A New Hope) was the most commercially acceptable. The three segmants of the saga are distinguished by the passage of time. The First Segmant is supposed to detail how the Old Republic was corrupted and turned into the Empire, and how Darth Vader came to power, destroying the other Jedi's. Supposedly Ben and Darth battle in which Darth becomes the disfigured human that we've seen. I suppose Darth also thinks Ben was killed in this battle. (This battle supposed to take place over a Volcano or something. At the end of the first segment the Emperor comes into power and Ben goes into hiding, after hiding the babies Luke and Leia. 20 years later, Luke has reached adulthood, but doesn't know his destiny. This is the second segment which we've have seen produced. The Empire is destroyed and the Rebel Aliance has won the cosmic battle for Good. Luke meets his destiny and destroys the Emperor. Approximentally 20 years later, we start the third segmant. After the Emperor is destroyed, the Rebel Alliance has restored the Republic. But all is not well. The territorial governors don't want to just give up there power. The New Republic is still weak. It has not reached the full Glory of it's former self, and a new threat puts it in danger of being destroyed. The leaders must face and overcome this threat, and secure the New Republic before our story can be done. The only characters that will be in all nine episodes are the two droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO. The entire saga is seen through their eyes and told to us. We catch a glimpse of the story telling ability of C-3PO in _Return of the Jedi_ when he relaying the rebels experience to the Ewoks. (Who were originally supposed to be Chewbaca's race, but through TV specials and the Comic Book, his race was shown to be too technologically advance for the primitive society Lucas wanted to use to overthrow the technologically advanced Empire.) The other characters may come and go, some of our heros may even die, as Ben did. Well there's the basic outline of the _Star Wars_ saga as I understand it from reading various articles in magazines. The full nine part story has never been published in any form that I'm aware of. My big question is, does Lucas still plan to produce all nine episodes as he once stated he would, or has he decided the he told enough of his Epic Sage. I sure hope the formers true, but I've heard nothing of a new movie, and in the end of a TV special _Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga_, Lucas makes a comment that almost sounds like he finished and his stories told. We movie viewers deserve to know the answers to all our questions: How did Anakin Skywalker become the twisted Darth Vader? How did the Emperor get such command over the Force, when he was never a Jedi? What are the Clone Wars? Who will run the New Republic? Will a new order of Jedi's arise from Luke's training? These questions an many more will be answered in the continueing saga of _Star Wars_. Scott A. Stewart LMSC
