If they come to your area, I would recommend seeing them. They were in Chicago at the beginning of May (before their latest album was released) and I thought they put on an excellent show. (Good enough that I plan on seeing them again in August.) Expect to hear songs that are not on any albums. Although the played a lot of songs from the new album (which I had not heard). I counted on the order of a dozen songs that were not on any disc that I know of (and they can't all be on the new album). In fact, when I saw them for the first time last summer, they were already playing "Driver 8" which is on their new album. Two songs to look out for are "Hyeana" and "Femme Fatale" (I'm guessing as to the titles). I have both songs on concert boots, and was surprised not to find them on the new album. Does anyone have more info on these songs? Their playing was very good, and the volume was not too loud, so you could really get into the music. Don't expect to understand the vocals though--I don't think (lead singer ) Mike Stipe knows how to sing clearly! Their vocals are still extremely well done. The harmonies on their studio albums come through extremely well live. They are also an interesting band to watch. Stipe gets into some strange positions while singing. An interesting note, there were several times when he had his back to the crowd--a sort of no-no for performers. Does anyone out there in netland have any idea how to get a hold of lyrics to any of their music? (Don't worry, I'm not expecting them to be earth shattering) Thomas Narten { decvax, icalqa, inuxc, sequent, uiucdcs } !pur-ee!purdue!narten { decwrl, hplabs, ihnp4, icase, psuvax1, siemens, ucbvax } !purdue!narten
