Why not (I realize this is more involved) make the user explicitly define the lines that get included (or kept). One way might be to include lines prefixed with some character, say, '<', but when the note is posted have Pnews/postnews purge any line starting with '<'. If you wanted to keep the line, reverse it to '>'. (You might end up adding a key to 'reverse' the current line, moving the cursor on to the next line, for convenience, if this doesn't defeat the intent.)
