It definitely helps to "get" them when they're tired, and (for one of my cats, at least) sometimes you may only get 3 or 4 of the claws at a sitting. Be persistent. However, when you get a new cat (kitten), the way to condition them is to play with their paws often, in the normal course of petting them-- pet their feet, push your fingers between their "fingers" to extend the claws, etc. Once they get used to this (it isn't too hard, unless the cat doesn't like to be handled at all), they are quite amenable to the clipping. And of course, ALWAYS reward them afterwards with an edible treat. SJBerry
